Meet Ruppert and Effa, the official mascots of the Newark Bears! Ruppert and Effa will inspire you to say “I’m In!” as you enjoy the 2013 season of baseball with the Newark Bears. Ruppert and Effa are outgoing, fun-loving bears who proudly suit up in the Newark Bears team jerseys and hats to come out to each game and cheer on their favorite team at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium.
Ruppert is named after Jacob Ruppert who owned the Newark Bears team in the 1930’s and is a celebrated man in sporting, political and business history. Effa takes her name from Effa Manley, who was the first female owner and business manager of a professional baseball team – the Newark Eagles – and the only woman inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
