The Quebec Capitales hammered 14 hits on their way to a 13-7 victory over the Newark Bears on Thursday night.
Bryan Rembisz gave the Capitales six innings, giving up four runs on nine hits and one walk, while striking out five in a winning effort.
Jonathan Malo and Steve Brown homered for Quebec.
Bears starter Mike Ness (5-2) lasted five innings, allowing 11 runs on 13 hits and three walks.
Newark’s offense managed seven runs on 12 hits. Five Bears had two hits on the day.
Center fielder Danny Santiesteban had a home run and two RBI on the day. Second baseman Juan Martinez went 2-for-4 to raise his batting average to .294 on the season. Catcher Dan Coury, right fielder Eric McGee and left fielder Burt Reynolds all contributed multiple hits.
The Bears look to avoid the series sweep on Friday at 7:05 p.m.
